the lawyer’s Overlook

About us

The Lawyer’s Overlook is a beautiful architecturally designed home with stunning 360º views. Lovingly restored and re-imagined as an affordable and unique event space perfect for corporate events, family celebrations, showers, weddings, and receptions.

Situated on a hill overlooking the Stewart family farm, The Lawyer’s Overlook provides a breathtaking backdrop for corporate or family events. The large fields encompassing the property provide options for a fully outdoor event, or they provide ample space for a large tent to be set up. There is also a cabin available for guests to rent and a lovely arbor in the woods adjacent to the cabin available for small wedding parties. In the spring and summer months, a well maintained pool behind the house is available as part of certain rental packages.

The spacious kitchen on the Main Level is a caterer’s dream, and there is a Bridal Suite and a Groom’s Suite, as well as two full upstairs bathrooms, that clients can choose to rent to prep for their big day. The dining room and living rooms are spacious and well appointed, and are perfect for showers, family gatherings, or corporate events.

The Lower Level is equipped with a fully furnished bedroom and a full bath that is available for bridal parties to rent overnight, as well as two cozy seating areas with TVs. There is also a spacious game room replete with a pool table, a dart board, slot machines, a bar, and a gaming table.

We operate on what is called a “blank canvas” model, meaning that while we have a list of trusted and local vendors, clients essentially are able to choose who they would like to hire for their wedding or event. (Caterers must be licensed in order to serve alcohol.) We feel that this type of model allows clients to tailor their event to their tastes and to their financial needs, and we are able to help clients curate a one-of-a-kind experience.

OUR story

Nathan and Channing met back in 2012 at an organized run in Seneca Park.  After bumping into each other at local races, Ironman events, and organized training runs, they became training partners and logged hundreds of hours and miles together training as friends.  Five years later, Nathan worked up the courage to ask Channing out on a date, and the rest is history! After years together as partners (both in life and in business,) they wed in December of 2021.  Together they have built a farm, a life, a dream, and a space for people to create dreams of their own, all in memory of the Stewart family legacy begun by John and Mary Stewart.

OUR MISSION

Our mission in creating The Lawyer’s Overlook is to provide our clients with affordable options for celebrating their major life milestones.  We hope that our farm provides a beautiful and unique place to help couples and families create wonderful memories.

We also love the community here in Oldham County, and we want nothing more than to provide accessible events here on our farm that promote agritourism and bring together people in OC!  We look forward to creating original and fun events targeted to help our local vendors and small business, promote community cohesion, and to celebrate with family and new friends.

OUR HISTORY

John Frith Stewart worked as a prolific labor lawyer both in Oldham County and in Louisville. He also served as the Mayor of Pewee Valley for 16 years and at one point ran for Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky! John could always be seen wearing his trademark bow tie with his pipe clenched between his teeth and a sparkle in his bright blue eyes. He would often stand on the front porch and look out over this farmland, a place he cherished. He loved people, he loved his family, he loved to entertain, and he loved to be right in the middle of all of the action. His spunky, intelligent wife, Mary, was right in the mix with him.

We lost both of Nathan’s parents in 2021, a mere 8 months apart from each other. They were two remarkable people, who did remarkable things in their lives, both for their family and for the community here in Oldham County. This house, which we have lovingly repaired, cleaned, painted, refurbished and reimagined as an event space, embodies the class, intelligence, spirit, and fun that was John Frith and Mary Stewart. We lovingly and proudly present to you The Lawyer’s Overlook.
